Update to the Multilingual Title Algorithm on Google

The purpose of the latest version of Google’s algorithm is to detect web pages with titles that are written in a language that is distinct from the language used in the body of the page and to process these pages in a manner that is distinct from how it previously did so.

Google will rewrite the page title in the language that is used in the primary content of the website, rather than presenting it in search results exactly as it is written on the page.

If your page names include more than one language or script, you should absolutely anticipate having them updated. This is a given.

According to an article that was published on Google’s site, this modification was based on the best practice of keeping language consistent across an entire document:

“During the course of this past week, we implemented a new algorithmic improvement that detects documents in which the title element is written in a different language or script than the content of the document, and then selects a title that is comparable to the language and script used in the document.

This is done in accordance with the general rule that the title of a document should be written in the same language or script as the principal contents of the document. It’s one of the reasons why we could go beyond title components when it comes to the titles of online search results.

This change also applies to titles that have been transliterated, which is the process by which text is transcribed from one language into another language that utilizes a different character or alphabet.

Even if there is only one language included in the title, it will be altered if it differs in any way from the language that is used in the primary content.

An example of a page title for a song that was written in Hindi but transliterated to utilize Latin characters rather than the original Devanagari script is provided by Google as follows:
